1977 – 1980 : Michael Mehl – Musical Director For Argentine Singer Leo Dan : Mexico & South America
Aside from other musical and photographic activities, in May of 1977 I began a multiyear stint as guitarist and musical director for Argentine singer and pop star Leo Dan. In the years between 1977 and 1980 we toured extensively throughout South America and Mexico, playing concerts at stadiums, nightclubs, civic centers, and many other urban and rural venues.
Sometimes we would travel with musical groups from Mexico, like Sacbé or Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, with whom I would rehearse Leo’s repertory before a tour. Other times we would hire groups or musicians from other South American countries and I would rehearse with them upon our arrival to the country we were touring.
