1995 : Michael Mehl : Much To Do About Fahrenheit – Artists & Their Answering Machines : SAMOCA : San Antonio TX
Curated by artist/activist Gene Elder as part of his ongoing SAMOCA-Publick Occurrences initiatives, Much To Do About Fahrenheit was a month-long, multi-artist audio exhibit that was warmly embraced by San Antonio’s artist community.
Gene asked us to create unique messages for our answering machines and make them available throughout the whole month of September.
I had recently produced I Have Lost My Vibrato In Your Backyard, for a series of audio works called MIDIphonics & Other Words Of Art, and decided to use that piece for the exhibit. I contracted a professional answering service so that the recording (at five minutes) would be available 24 hours a day.
